              Free Parenting Support Group:
              Parenting Beyond Power

              • Does your relationship with your child feel more like a war than a family?
              • Do you often feel the need to “win” every conflict, or does it seem like you’ve lost all influence over your child?
              • Have you tried time-outs, punishments and rewards, but were disappointed with the results?
If any of the above sounds familiar, know that you are not alone. Thse problems are common and there are solutions. If you’ve tried time-outs, punishments and rewards, and other behavior-based approaches and were disappointed with the results, know that while these techniques can sometimes produce compliance in the short-term, there are negative long- term consequences for children and their relationship to their parents.

Parenting Effectiveness Training (PET) is a method of parenting that relies on the quality of the relationship between parent and child rather than power or coercion, but all children have a need for a positive relationship with their parents or adult caregivers. Cultivating the relationship can bring about long-lasting changes in a child’s behavior that can make family life more satisfying for both you and your child.

Parenting Beyond Power, a support and educational group for parents, is offered free of charge. We meet weekly at 6:30pm – 8:00pm every Friday at The Cottages Psychotherapy Center at 3990 Clairmont Road in Chamblee.
